:: Novel Review : One of Us is Lying ::
Salam and good day peeps!
You guys would probably know that I love reading and for the past few years, I've been reading different kinds of books - name it; NOVELS, COMICS and SELF REFLECTION & IMPROVEMENT. In my previous post, I did mention about book reviews. So, for today's post, I will be writing about a novel entitled One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus.
Here's a description about the novel.
Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn - the brain - is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy - the beauty - is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate - the criminal - is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper - the athlete - is the all-star baseball pitcher.
Simon - the outcast - is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon's dead and according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. However, on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder...or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who still on the loose?
Now that the description's up, let's talk about few things in this novel. First is the theme. Here's a phrase; "Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them." The novel focused on the main characters - Bronwyn, Addy, Nate and Cooper - in which they were well-known in their high school for different reasons. It was because of their fame in the school, the dead character - Simon - somehow had their biggest and probably darkest secrets in his hands. He planned to reveal it but was unable to due to his death. So, the novel emphasizes on the determination the characters have, in order to protect their secrets from the world.
Second; who is the culprit? As told in the description, all four of them became the suspects of their classmate's death since they were in the detention period together. The case itself was a perfect composition and neither four of them can escape from it. When you get the chance to read this novel, you will see that behind this case lies another unfold side story from side characters which will make you keep wondering of the real culprit's true intentions. Why did Simon die in the first and what was the cause of it?
Lastly is the plot development. Keep it simple, the novel will not be a disappointment as the novel unveils different side stories from the four characters that makes the reader to be intrigued with the novel and eventually discovering the real culprit behind the death of Simon.
So, that's all I have for this review. As always, thank you for reading my writing. I'll be working on next book review, so stay tuned. Till then!
